4 jan, 20:43
Junior men pistol day 2: Emil Thomsson, Otso Ahokangas, Ture Thomsson.
The men’s pistol final on Day 2 of the Swedish Cup at Sävsjö Shooting Centre delivered high drama right to the very end.
Bernt Alpenhoff of Malmö held the lead through most of the final, staying in front until the 18th shot, when Isac Ahlqvist from Lönsboda moved ahead. Isac then controlled the final until shot 22, before Finland’s Sampo Voutilainen stepped up and took the lead.
One shot later, both Sampo and Isac were tied on 238.4 points, forcing a shoot-off to decide the title. In the decisive moment, Sampo proved the more composed shooter, securing his second consecutive gold medal. Isac claimed silver, while Bernt Alpenhoff finished third.
Björkås Takes Second Straight Junior Gold
In the parallel women’s junior final, Ane Torgersen Björkås of Sola claimed her second gold medal in as many days with a convincing performance. She finished on 236.0 points, well ahead of Eline Melkild Aalmo from Sunndal on 227.3, after a decisive 6.8 in the 23rd shot. Jasmine Kranendonk from Unnaryd completed the podium in third place.
Thörnqvist Wins the Women’s Final
Earlier in the session, the women’s final unfolded with an intense duel between Saturday’s winner Stina Lawner of Falu Sport and Josefine Thörnqvist from Zinkgruvan. A couple of eights disrupted Stina’s momentum, however, and she eventually settled for third place.
Instead, Krisztina Komaromi of Lövsta emerged as Josefine’s main challenger. Despite finishing strongly with two closing tens, Komaromi was unable to close the gap. Josefine Thörnqvist secured the victory with 238.3 points to 235.6.
Veteran Rifle Gold for Olsson
At the same time, the final rifle event of the competition was decided in the veterans’ class. First-year veteran Karl Olsson from Bromma–Solna continued his impressive form, taking gold with 242.9 points. Martin Sahlbring of Uddevalla claimed silver on 239.5, while Hanna Gadd from Trollhättan Skarp finished third.
Ahokangas Charges to Junior Gold
The men’s junior pistol final saw strong Swedish resistance led by Emil Thomsson of Krysseboda, but it was Finland’s Otso Ahokangas who took control from the 20th shot onward. Otso went on to win with 234.8 points, ahead of Emil on 233.5. Emil’s brother, Ture Thomsson, secured third place.
In the parallel veterans’ pistol final, yesterday’s bronze medallist Göran Wadman from Östhammar stepped up to challenge Saturday’s winner Ingar Woll of Norway. Wadman claimed the gold with 232.8 points, while Woll took silver on 228.6. Börje Lundin of Vännäs finished third.
Nyberg Triumphs in Running Target
On the running target range, Swedish shooters restored order as world-class marksmen Emil Martinsson of Osby and Jesper Nyberg of Hylte advanced to the final. Emil eliminated Saturday’s winner Henri Karlsson of Finland in one semifinal, while Jesper defeated Oscar Eliasson in the other.
In the final, Jesper Nyberg prevailed over Emil Martinsson by 8–6. Oscar Eliasson secured bronze after winning the third-place match.
In the women’s running target event, Finland’s Ida Heikkilä took gold with a 6–3 victory over Heili Lepp of Estonia. Louise Samuelsson from Rimforsa claimed bronze after a 6–2 win in the bronze match.
The junior running target competition produced an all-Finnish podium, with William Wilkman defeating his brother Wilmer Wilkman 6–2 in the final. Viili Vilken secured third place after a 6–4 victory in the bronze match.
