The Täby Oldtimers - Kista Oldtimers matchup has been touted as a potential final in the Stockholm Oldtimers 2nd division 35+ series. It lived up to the hype on Tuesday Feb 05 night in Kista, a rough Stockholm suburb. Täby Oldtimers woke up on the winning side with a 2-6 win.
Täby started the game great. Holding Kista Oldtimers without a shot on goal for almost 10 full minutes after the puck had dropped, Täby finished the first 20 minutes with an 10-5 advantage in that category, and a 0-4 lead.
Täby Oldtimers were dominating in terms of goals and had a 0-5 lead in the middle of the final period. In terms of playing the game, stats were not in advantage to Täby and Kista put up a good game with skilled saucer passes and a lot of puck possession. Luckily for Täby, tracking passing is labour-intensive for humans because it happens so frequently within each game, so no one bothered to count. And Sportlogiq’s computer vision technology wasn’t yet installed in the arena.
Kista responded and got two goals within 3 minutes mid second period. But Täby’s Thomas ”The Catapult” Sandberg ended with a coast-to-coast, one-handed, beckhand goal in epic fashion, soloing from Täby’s goal across the ice and finally breaking in between the two unhappy Kista defencemen. He scored the final goal to give Täby a 6-2 victory. Simon ”The Ant” Myrbäck said ”I could see it in Tomas’ face that he had decided to score. And I thought to myself - Watch out Kista players, here comes Johnny...”.
Will Täby Oldtimers win the Series 2019…?
