We won the league, that's a good place to start. But here's a bit more about the 2022 season...
- FORTY different players took to the field in Korpen Division 3 for us this season!
Whilst a lot of players laced up their boots this year, there was a 'core' group of 19 who took part in over half the matches. Chris Mitchell and Nick Sitbon led the way with 14 and 13 appearances respectively.
- With twelve victories, we won more games this season than in the previous two combined.
It became clear pretty early on that with some togetherness and organisation we had a very good chance of promotion, but it was back-to-back wins against Stockholm University and FC Aura in the summer which really sparked the title charge. Commiserations to Aura on missing out on promotion, they deserved it.
- 54 goals in just 15 matches meant we averaged 3.6 goals per game (compared to previous season averages of 2.5 and 3.1).
Goals were spread throughout the team with a pretty amazing 22 different players scoring for us in the league. Top scorer was Ahmed with 8 goals in 12 games, Luke and Craig just behind him on 7. Incredibly Craig scored those 7 goals in just 5 matches!
- This season wasn't just about the goals we scored but also about how few we conceded, allowing the opposition only 18 goals (3 of which were penalties) meaning an average of 1.2 goals conceded per match.
Some solid performances in goals and the defence were required this season and were duly delivered, particularly in the bigger matches. Special mentions to Nick, Patch, Zmarai, Gustaf, Will, Tim and Dennis who played at the back in over half the games this season.
The season awards were handed out in November
- Both the Club and Player's Player of the Year awards went to the departing Ahmed Hussein.
- Second place was awarded to star forward Luke Shuttleworth.
- Third place ended in a tie between key men Brian Modica and Tim Plummer.
- The Golden Boot award (with 13 goals in all competitions) went to the Ukrainian wing wizard himself, Yurii Rybin. That's two years in a row!
