Last Game
Two weeks ago we battled Örebro in a tight game that gave us a major advantage in the race for the second spot in the standings, which is so important because it means a home playoff game. After getting out to a lead early, we had a difficult time putting away the Black Knights in a victory that was not secured until the final onside kick was recovered by Pontus Westman with less than two minutes left in the fourth. The final score was 34‐28 for Tyresö, although many signs point towards a rematch from last year’s semifinal at Tyresövallen between. However, before any of these details are set there are four weekends of games to be played out in which many things can still happen.
This week
The continuing revolving door will continue on our offensive line as junior star Erik Wahlström will jump into the starting lineup this week. The receiver corps will be without Daniel Nässelqvist, but with quarterback Billy Greene’s habit of spreading the ball amongst his receivers, this should not be too huge of disruption in the offense’s rhythm.
After two weeks of rest, Greene’s injured foot should be healed and ready to respond the way that he needs it to in order for him to be the weapon that he is when he can both run and pass. On the defensive side of the ball, we have added what we feel is the final piece of the puzzle as Finnish defensive stalwart Efe Evwaraye will join the team on Saturday and remain with us through the remainder of the season.
Evwaraye has experience across Europe both in club and international play. His size, speed, strength, and leadership will add to what is already a solid defensive lineup. Elsewhere in our defensive lineup, we will lose rookie cornerback Joakim Leopold for the remainder of the year as he heads to California to play college ball at Santa Barbara City College. We wish him the best in his adventures stateside. This week we travel to Märsta to play the Arlanda Jets at 12pm on Saturday.
This game is one that represents a challenge in that we are playing a young, rebuilding team that lies significantly behind us in the standings. It is always easy for these games to be sleep walks in which the favored team does not improve at all.Offensively, our focus needs to lie on the efficient execution of our different sets. When we are on defense, our focus needs to be on two players. The Jets have brought in an accurate quarterback to throw the ball to their other speedy import, so pressuring the quarterback and taking away his main target are clearly the keys in shutting down their offense. In the past two games that we have played, we have struggled to put away opponents when we seemingly had them on the ropes. This is something that we need to work on improving this week.
