I was called last night and informed that the team wanted a team meeting to discuss money raising for some adventure in the later in the year. So we cancelled tonight’s training. When I arrived at the klubblokal a couple of the girls met me and asked me to unlock the door.
I tried to unlock the door but noticed it was already unlocked. “What idiot has forgotten to lock this I thought”. And then as we went in to the local I could smell popcorn, and see one of the tables had some plates and cups on it. “Who has forgotten to clean up I thought”.
I should have been a bit more awake because suddenly out jump the rest of the team (I distinctly remember ducking!)
Yes it was my surprise birthday party! It will also be a surprise to many to know that this is only the second birthday party that I have not had to fix myself. The first party was when I was 12 year old when my mother arranged it, and now 15 years later my fantastic team has surprised me.
And what a party! I sat there wolfing down (most excellent) cake, eating popcorn, and munching on chips and I remembered my early days in Sweden. I felt like Ivar in the OLW avert from 1994. (I learnt most of my early Swedish from TV commercials and Klasses Julkalender). The scene was set. I sat there with “brudarna”. Would someone call me up and say “Var är bruderna?”. I would reply (in a slightly soft voice) “Har ni fest?” and know those years of TV watching had not been in vain.
Even though it was a party some team rules had to be followed. Rule 1: At least 4 people must be talking at the same. Rule 2: Some things had to be explained three or four times.
We had a kahoot quiz…followed by Musical Chairs . (The whole sea is stormy in Swedish). Rule 2 applied and it was explained a few times. I won the kahoot quiz (I was the only person in the completion), but come on ladies, I was very quickly found myself without a chair to sit. Whose party was it????
Afterwards when I think about it I can say I was both surprised and not surprised. You certainly surprised me with a fantastic party but I realise now that I should not really be surprised – you are the best team in the world.
